If there’s something that makes women go crazy (only after diamonds), it’s a lipstick! Don’t we women just love those vibrant bars of colors that can make us look stunning within seconds? No matter whether you are into nudes or brights, liquid or traditional, matte or glossy, you just can’t resist yourself when you see it in any form!
Well, being crazy about lipsticks is totally acceptable but using it the wrong way is not at all done! Have a look at the most common mistakes that you may be making each time you glam yourself up for a party!
Choosing the wrong color for your lip shape:
Surprised? Well, that’s true! There are certain rules based on the lip shape, that you need to follow while choosing a lipstick. As a matter of fact, dark lipstick makes lips appear thinner while the lighter ones tend to make lips appear fuller. So, you have to be careful and stay away from darker shades if you have thin lips and vice-versa.
Choosing the wrong lipstick for your skin tone:
Just like your choice of nail paint or hair color requires you to consider your skin tone, the choice of your lipstick also depends upon it. Lipsticks have undertones just like your skin and if yours don’t match, it’s just a waste of money. So, it’s advisable to go for shades that match your undertone so as to look stunning and not a weirdo wearing that odd shade of lipstick!
Neglecting lip exfoliation:
Many of us tend to get so much involved in a skincare regime but fail to pay attention to our lips. Just like our skin needs to breathe, our lips also need to be taken care of. If neglected, they can easily become dry and chapped. Make sure that you exfoliate and moisturize your lips regularly to avoid flakes of dead skin on your lips. You can either do that using a homemade sugar scrub or simply rub your lips with a soft toothbrush for a minute or two every day.
Not hydrating your lips before applying a lipstick:
Each and every part of your body needs to stay hydrated. So, make sure your water intake is adequate. Just in case hydration doesn’t help you solve your chapped lip problem, you can apply lip balm or vaseline or a mixture of glycerine and rose water to your lips every day. Do it without fail before applying lipstick so that the slakes on your chapped lips aren’t visible. You may also use a lip primer for the same purpose.
Avoiding lip liner:
If you are not used to applying a lip liner before lipstick, start doing it now! You do not need to line your lips with a lip liner that’s several shades darker than that of your lipstick. Instead, go for a shade almost similar to that of your lipstick and see how it keeps your lipstick from bleeding outside the lines of your lips. You may even apply those cream lip liners all over your lips as they tend to stay longer than your lipstick.
Applying the lipstick in an incorrect manner:
This is a secret that nobody tells you. You have a right and a wrong way to apply lipstick! You never start up from the sides. Always start from the bow in the middle of your lips. This trick will help you apply the lipstick more evenly and that too without going out of the desired areas.
Not setting your lipstick:
Now, if you are someone who hates touch-ups then you are committing a sin by not setting your lipstick once you’ve applied it. If you really want your lipstick to stay longer, make sure that you dust your lips with a translucent powder once you’ve applied your favorite shade of lipstick. If you have no idea how to do it, here’s what you need to do. Just place a thin tissue over your lips and apply some translucent setting powder using a makeup brush and voila!
Getting your teeth painted with lipstick:
Trust me, those patches of lipstick on your teeth would make you look horrible and ruin all your hard work! You can simply prevent that excess lipstick from getting onto your teeth by putting a finger in your mouth, lightly closing your lips around it, and then pulling it out slowly. This would remove any lipstick that could’ve ended up in your teeth.
I am sure you won’t ever commit these lipstick sins from now onward!
